How do I send a message to students in CAMS?

Advisors can send messages to students from within the Career Advisor Management System (CAMS) to remind them of upcoming assignments, events, completion requirements, and more. The student will receive a notification in their My Plan account, as well as an email notification if they've included an email address with their account.

To send a message to an individual student (and/or their parents):

  1. From your Advisor Homepage, click Search for Students.
  2. Enter the student's name or ID and click Submit
  3. Click the View/Action drop-down menu beside the student's name and select Send Message.
  4. Complete the Subject and Message Text and click Send Message.
  5. You'll receive a confirmation page showing total recipients and emails sent.

To send a message to all students or a filtered student list (and/or their parents):

  1. From your Advisor Homepage, under the All Students section, click Send Message.
  2. Complete the Subject and Message Text
  3. Under Message Recipients, choose Students, their Parents, or Both.
  4. Within Select Users, if you wish to send the message to the entire student list, choose All Students and skip to Step 6. If you want to send to a filtered student list (such as only Grade 10 students), select Build a Filter.
  5. Within Filter Criteria, check the appropriate criteria. (e.g. All Students, Grade 10, or My Students, Female.)
  6. Click Send Message. You'll receive a confirmation page showing total recipients and emails sent.

To send a message to all students assigned to you (and/or their parents):

  1. From your Advisor Homepage, under the My Students section, click Send Message.
  2. Complete the Subject and Message Text.
  3. Under Message Recipients, choose Students, their Parents, or Both.
  4. Under Select Users, ensure the following options are selected (and do not change them): Build a Filter and Assigned Advisor > Your Students. You can also select one or more options for Gender or Grade if you want to filter further.

  5. Click Send Message. You'll receive a confirmation page showing total recipients and emails sent.

To send a message to a specific group of students and/or their parents, you'll have to check if there's an existing Student Group created (follow these instructions on creating groups if necessary). To send a message to an existing Student Group:

  1. From your Advisor Homepage, under the All Students section, click Send Message.
  2. Complete the Subject and Message Text
  3. Under Message Recipients, choose Students, their Parents, or Both.
  4. Under Select Users, select Student Group and choose the specific group from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click Send Message. You'll receive a confirmation page showing total recipients and emails sent.

To send messages to students from within specific CAMS reports:

There are several reports that allow you to send a message to students based on different criteria within a report. Portfolio Completion Reports, in particular, are useful for sending messages to students with incomplete portfolios. You can also send messages to students who have or haven't completed certain activities/assignments. From the report results page, look for the Send Message link at the top of the page.

If you have access to the Regional Reporting System for your district and wish to send a message to parents and/or students in your district, please use the following instructions.

To send a message from the RRS:

  1. From your Administrator Homepage, click Send Message from the menu on the left.
  2. Complete the Subject and Message Text
  3. Under Who Should Get This Message, if you wish for all students in the district/region to receive the message, proceed to step 4. If you wish to refine your list, select a school or check the option for all schools.  You can also select one or more options for Gender or Grade if you want to filter further.
  4. Click Send Message. You'll receive a confirmation page showing total recipients and emails sent.
